Website Update

Updated Town website features scrollable photos

The recently updated Town of Athabasca website now allows you to take a pictorial tour of the Town right from the comfort of your own web browser.

Previously, the only way to change the homepage photos was to refresh or reload the page. Now, visitors can scroll through a selection of local photos simply by clicking the “Previous” and “Next” buttons. As an added feature, each photo now includes a caption to highlight specific details about the photo.

The new scrollable photo feature is just one of several improvements made to the Town website to make it more attractive and user friendly.

“We changed the visual design and tweaked a few other elements to give it a more contemporary look and feel,” notes Town Councillor Christine Nelson, a member of the Council Communications Committee that is responsible for overseeing the use and development of the website.

Some of the changes are more obvious, such as the colour and the positioning of particular page elements. Other changes are more subtle, like the text styles and the improved drop-down menus.

Visitors can also adjust the size of the text in the centre column on each page simply by clicking one of the A’s at the top of the right hand column.

“Since more people have wider screens these days, the new design allows the page to automatically adapt to the size of the browser window and the screen,” says Christine.

One feature that remains on the site, but has been moved to the left column, is the Events Calendar where local events can be posted to help keep the community informed. To find out what’s happening on a particular day, visitors can click either the date or the “More” link below the calendar. Those links will also lead to another link for the online form that can be used to submit events to be posted on the calendar.

It has been a few years since any major updates have been made to the design of the website. The committee felt it was time for a change.
