Town honoured with two prestigious awards

The Town of Athabasca was selected recently to receive a Municipal Heritage Preservation Award from the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation, and a Best Safety Performers Award from the Occupational Health and Safety Council.

The Municipal Heritage Preservation Award is given for exemplary commitment to the identification, protection and promotion of municipal historic resources. It was presented to Town representatives and the award nominator, Iola Bartja, in an awards ceremony held at the historic McKay Avenue School in Edmonton on Nov. 29.

The Best Safety Performers Award was given to Alberta companies and employers who demonstrated exceptional performance records in workplace health and safety in 2006. Recipients of the award were announced in the September 2007 edition of Occupational Health & Safety, a publication of Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry.

The Oct/Nov 2007 edition of Work Safe Alberta News, also a publication of Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry, states that “Companies who receive this recognition stand out as an employer of choice in Alberta’s competitive environment where recruitment and retention is vital.”
