Young families, couples, singles, and retirees will find much to offer in the Town of Athabasca.

Recreation facilities include a 25 meter swimming pool with special assistance stairs for the physically challenged, a climbing wall, a childrens' pool, sauna and hot tub, an environmentally sound UV filtering system, and innovative programs for seniors, masters, juniors and children.

Newcomers and oldtimers enjoy a skating and hockey arena, a curling rink, numerous ball diamonds, a tennis court, and a number of new soccer pitches - our fastest growing summer sport.

If you like music and drama, the Nancy Appleby Theatre is a first class performing arts centre. It is equipped with a multi-media system and digital projector. First run movies and live concerts occur every month of the year.

Nearby in the Old Brick School, you can join the Pottery Club, where members hand build, throw, and fire pots made from locally collected Athabasca clay.

Athabasca is also home to an 18-hole golf-course alongside the Athabasca River that draws golfers from around the province because of its beauty, peacefulness, and challenges.

For those who like books and information, the Athabasca Public Library is part of the Northern Lights Library system. Patrons may use the internet catalogue to borrow books from libraries around Alberta. As well, the public may register to use the Athabasca University Library.

If you are looking to retire, or to start a family, housing is affordable and taxes are on par with other Towns in the region. Public services and parks are excellent for a small town.

Newcomers are always interested to know about Health Services. The Athabasca Health Centre includes hospital facilities, long term care rooms, and a physiotherapist. There are a number of general practicioners in Town, a naturopathic doctor, a mental health specialist, wellness counsellors, two chiropractors, massage therapists, a well stocked health food and nutritional supplement store, and more. Also there are Seniors Apartments and Lodges and an Extendicare.
