Engineering Consulting Service

Did You Know . . . The Town contracts for engineering consulting services as a means to assure both quality service and cost effectiveness.

Engineering Consulting Services by contract

The Town of Athabasca contracts for professional engineering consulting services as a means to assure both quality service and cost effectiveness. The contracted consultant provides services on a per project basis, a process that is more cost effective than hiring a full time engineering service.

A Request for Proposals (RFP) went out in February inviting interested consulting firms or consultants to submit a proposal for services for a three-year contract, the intent of the RFP being to choose a candidate by the end of March.

Hiring contractors for specific services is common for municipalities. The Town of Athabasca hires contractors for other services besides engineering consulting. The RFP process helps to attract quality service at a fair cost.

“We have already done this with banking services and auditing services,” says Town Chief Administrative Officer Ryan Maier. “It’s all part of the process of trying to get the best service at the best price. We kept the same banking service and we selected a new auditing service.”

If the RFP process initiated in February for choosing an engineering consulting service is successful, the selected candidate will be notified in April after being recommended to and confirmed by Town Council.
