Council supports Community Christmas Dinner

Honouring a request from the Athabasca Ministerial Association, the Town is supporting the 20th Annual Community Christmas Dinner with a donation of $300 plus GST to cover half the cost of the Athabasca Regional Multiplex rental.

The traditional event is organized and run by community volunteers and provides an opportunity for all members of the community to enjoy a festive dinner and entertainment free of charge. An estimated 900 people were served at the event in 2011.

Volunteers generously donate their time, talent and effort to help prepare and serve the food, wash dishes, clean up during and after the event, entertain the guests and perform various other tasks and duties as required.

Councillor Tim Verhaeghe acknowledges the volunteers for their selfless contribution of service in the community.

“We offer our sincere appreciation for all the volunteers that support the Community Christmas Dinner,” says Tim. “The Town supports the dinner as it is a way to express and enjoy fellowship with our neighbours and all in the community during the holiday season.”

The event will be held on Thursday, December 6 at the Athabasca Regional Multiplex. There is no cost, all are welcome, and those interested in volunteering their time or talent for an hour or two during the event will be most welcome.
