Columbarium offers alternative to traditional burial
The Columbarium, located in the Athabasca Cemetary, where cinerary urns can be placed.
Area residents now have an alternative choice when laying loved ones to rest in the Athabasca Cemetery. Installed last year, a columbarium is available for the storage of cinerary urns containing the cremated remains of the departed.
The Athabasca columbarium is an attractive circular column, similar to a monument, with 60 storage compartments. Each compartment can hold up to two urns. The compartments are purchased in the same manner as cemetery plots and the purchaser receives a deed of ownership.
The cost for each compartment in the bottom two rows is $1,500 plus GST. The cost for all other compartments is $1,600 plus GST.
The compartments are locked and can be marked with an engraved plaque containing the name, family name, year of birth and year of passing of the person or persons to be memorialized within. The cost for a plaque is about $350 plus GST.
For more information about the Athabasca columbarium, please call Deb at the Town Office, 780-675-2063.
